KEYLESS ACCESS BUILT BY DOOR PEOPLE

About ZeroKey.

Keys had a good run.

ZeroKey is a keyless access control company built by people who spent their careers on commercial doors. We replace brass keys with Grade 1 keyless locks that never need Wi-Fi or IT, for multifamily owners, schools, healthcare and senior living, and commercial and municipal buildings. Headquartered in Omaha, with crews in Des Moines and Kansas City and install capability nationwide.

Thirty years of doors taught us where keyless fails.

ZeroKey’s founder spent 30 years supplying, installing and servicing commercial doors and locks, and ran an access control integration company. That’s three decades of standing in hallways, stairwells and maintenance closets, watching what actually happens to a lock after the sales rep leaves.

He saw the same three failures again and again. The network that goes down, and takes every door on it down too. The hub or gateway that needs a reboot at the worst possible moment. And the residential smart lock that was never built for a public door, installed on an apartment entry or a school corridor and worn out within a couple of years.

Meanwhile, owners kept paying for the old way: rekeying at every turnover, sending staff out on after-hours lockouts, replacing cylinders when a master key walked off. The cost was real, it showed up every month, and most owners had simply accepted it.

ZeroKey exists because we found a better way to do it, and built a company around installing it right. Keys are a line item. We delete it.

In pursuit of eliminating traditional keys.

Every key is a cost and a risk. Rekeys at turnover. Lockouts after hours. Copies nobody can track. Master keys that leave with a former employee.

Our mission is to take that entire category of cost off an owner’s books with keyless access control that holds up on commercial doors for 10 years or more, and to prove the savings with the owner’s own numbers before we ever ask for a meeting.

Why keys are the problem.

Keys cost more than most owners have added up.

A single rekey looks small. A year of them doesn’t. Across a portfolio, the cost of keys adds up in places that rarely get tracked together:

  • Turnover rekeys. Every move-out means a rekey or a cylinder swap, whether the key came back or not.

  • Lockouts. After-hours calls pull maintenance staff or a locksmith out at 11 p.m.

  • Lost masters. One missing master can mean rekeying an entire building.

  • Staff time. Cutting, logging and chasing keys eats hours your team could spend on residents and repairs.

  • Vacant days. Units sit empty while locks get changed, and every day costs rent.

  • Liability. An unauthorized copy is a security risk and a liability claim waiting to happen.

Keyless access control removes those costs at the source. Access is issued, changed and revoked from a browser, and every entry is logged, so there’s never a question about who has a key.

Five things every ZeroKey door has to do.

After 30+ years in commercial doors, we know which features matter on day one and which ones matter in year eight. Every system ZeroKey installs has to meet all five.

The People Behind ZeroKey

  • Josh Hannum, founder of ZeroKey, a keyless access control and commercial keyless entry company in Omaha, Nebraska

    Josh Hannum

    FOUNDER & CEO

Josh has spent 30 years in commercial doors and hardware. Over that time, he watched owners pay for the same problems again and again: rekeys, lockouts and keys that never came back. He started ZeroKey to fix that. Josh leads the company from Omaha and stays close to every project, from the first property walk to the final door.

  • Sarah Kaczmarek, Director of Sales at ZeroKey, helping multifamily and commercial properties switch to keyless access control

    Sarah Kaczmarek

    DIRECTOR OF SALES

Sarah leads sales at ZeroKey, and she’s usually the first person owners talk to. She works with property managers, schools, healthcare facilities and cities to figure out what keys are really costing them. Every project starts with her free Discovery Call: a straight conversation about your buildings, your numbers and whether keyless makes sense for you.
