How Harvest Development took its whole portfolio keyless, without Wi-Fi at most of its properties.

Keys don’t scale.

Harvest Development renovates and manages apartments, townhomes and single-family homes across two states. As the portfolio grew, keys became a full-time job.

  • Every move-out meant a locksmith visit or a core swap.

  • Copied, lost and unreturned keys created security and liability exposure.

  • Maintenance teams lost hours to key handoffs, lockouts and vendor access.

  • Properties spread across two states made key runs slow and expensive.

  • Every building had different doors, lock preps and ages of hardware.

No Wi-Fi?
No problem.

Harvest looked at several systems. Most of them depended on Wi-Fi, and most Harvest properties don’t have reliable Wi-Fi. ZeroKey Standalone never needs it.

“We looked at a number of different systems, but many of them relied on Wi-Fi—and the reality is that we simply don’t have reliable Wi-Fi at most of our properties. … Today, we have the ability to manage access remotely in a way that is both seamless and practical. … For us, ZeroKey has taken something that was becoming increasingly difficult to manage and turned it into a much more efficient, reliable, and manageable process.”

Harvest Development manages about 1,200 units across Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa. In this episode of Asset Control, their leadership team talks through the switch to ZeroKey: why keys stopped working at their scale, how residents took to mobile access, the hours saved on every lock change, and the numbers behind faster unit turns and lower operating costs.
